I know you can make money taking surveys, but can you make money some other way? I mean, a steady income but not like a job or anything, just a few extra hundred bucks a year or something?

Hey ya i too have made money with survey sites but they can be tedious. I ran across this site that Pays you to Upload. Basically anytime someone Downloads your file you get 40-80 cents per download. They accept over 240 Countries. So you can make a lot with this website if you find a good file people would want. Ive personally made thousands with this website.
